The National Testing Agency (NTA) has officially released the syllabus for the medical entrance examination NEET UG 2026. The syllabus has been issued after recommendations and approval from the Undergraduate Medical Education Board (UGMEB) of the National Medical Commission (NMC).
The updated syllabus has been made available to students even before the start of the application process so that candidates can begin their preparation early. As of now, NTA has not announced the official exam date for NEET UG 2026. However, based on previous years’ trends, the examination is expected to be held on the first Sunday of May. Accordingly, the tentative exam date may be 3 May 2026.
Earlier, the Undergraduate Medical Education Board of NMC had released the syllabus and also recommended the availability of necessary study material for students.
What is the NEET Examination?
NEET (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test) is conducted every year by NTA for admission to undergraduate medical courses across India. Through NEET UG, students get admission to courses such as:
- MBBS
- BUMS
- BHMS
- BSMS
- BDS (Bachelor of Dental Surgery)
- BVSc & AH (Bachelor of Veterinary Science and Animal Husbandry)
There are approximately 1.28 lakh MBBS seats available across the country, and nearly 24 lakh students apply every year for NEET UG.
No Change in NEET UG 2026 Syllabus
As of now, no changes have been made to the NEET UG 2026 syllabus. According to the released details:
- Physics: 20 units
- Chemistry: 20 units
- Biology: 10 units
Based on previous trends, NEET UG 2026 registration is expected to begin in the first week of February 2026. The official exam date and notification will be released soon on NTA’s official website: neet.nta.nic.in.
NTA Advisory on Aadhaar and Category Certificate Update
Before releasing the NEET UG 2026 application form and notification, NTA has issued an important advisory for all candidates. Students planning to register for NEET UG 2026 are advised to update all essential documents in advance.

- UDID Card (if applicable)

NTA Preparing for Face Biometric Verification
From 2026 onwards, NTA is preparing to implement face recognition technology for identity verification in major entrance examinations, including NEET UG. A live photo capture feature may also be added during the application process.
According to sources, during the NEET 2025 examination, the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) conducted a pilot test of Aadhaar-based facial authentication at selected examination centers in Delhi.
